Ulrich Knaak

Born in Darmstadt, Germany. Study in architecture at the RWTH (Technical University) Aachen. In 1993 he obtained Diploma in Architecture, in 1998 PhD „Konstruktiver Glasbau“ at RTWH Aachen.
Between 1993-1999: Chair „Baukonstruktion / Tragwerklehre“ / Prof. Dr. W. Führer, RWTH Aachen, 2000-2005: RKW Architektur und Städtebau / Düsseldorf.
Ulrich Knaack has a been a full professor of Design of Constructions at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft since 2005. In the Chair, he concentrates on the fundamentals of construction, the application of construction materials and elements, and the joints between the elements and materials themselves. As well as being a professor in Delft, Knaack is also a full professor of ‘Entwerfen und Konstruieren’ at the Hochschule OWL in Germany. He has published extensively on the subject of the outer walls of buildings and constructive glass, and has worked at the RKW Architektur und Städtebau firm of architects in Düsseldorf, among others.
Since 2008 he is co-founder imagine envelope b.v., an office focusing on planning of sophisticated building envelopes and customized constructions, façade planning for all service rendering phases and façade refurbishment, status analyses, quantity survey of existing structures, analysis of energetic potential, life time cycle analysis, material consulting, innovative use of materials, verification of workshop drawings, competition assistance, product development.
